Utilities companies cut oil, grease and costs with ultrasonic cleaning technology.
Southern California Gas Company has been delivering natural gas to its customers across the region for more than 140 years. Michael Towne, the Operations Supervisor for 33 years at the company’s Valencia facility, oversaw the use and maintenance of five 5500 horsepower compressor engines that moved 250 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from pipelines to storage fields two miles beneath the earth’s surface. The amount of oil, grease and dirt that built up from the large size and high power of these engines made their care and maintenance a continuous, time-consuming effort requiring harsh chemicals and laborious hand scrubbing. The purchase of one of Omegasonics’ machines significantly changed that.
What used to be a job for three or four people became a task easily completed by one person in the same amount of time.
If it comes off of the machine, we’ll clean it in the ultrasonic cleaner, and it comes out perfectly every time. We bought one machine for this facility in 2006 and it still runs every day. We never needed to purchase an additional machine to get the work done. We used expensive grade 8 nuts and bolts and saved a lot of money being able to clean and reuse them rather than buy new ones. But the labor cost savings alone were big enough to justify the purchase.
