We are so glad you asked! Ultrasonic cleaners are becoming more and more popular every day. We are even starting to see some low-end units sell on sites like Amazon and eBay. There is a very good reason for this… they clean amazingly well. This also happens to be an industry where you get what you pay for, so beware of the cheap machines with outrageous claims.
No now let’s talk about how they are so effective and what makes that happen…
The Cleaning Process
To understand why ultrasonic cleaners are so effective, you have to understand the process. Some people will try to make this sound far more complicated than it actually is, and there is really no need to do that. The fanciest word you will hear me use is cavitation, but only because you need to understand that is what creates the magic that is ultrasonic cleaning.
So, to understand cavitation, just picture a boat propeller in the water and how it churns up that water and creates small waves. Well, in essence, that is how our tanks work, only it is ultrasonic waves that are creating the cavitation instead of a propeller.
Your settings are determined by what you are cleaning. The frequency setting on the cleaner will determine the size of the bubble. For instance, if you are cleaning something non-porous with no cracks and crevices, you could use a lower setting for larger bubbles. However, if you are cleaning a small part or something with intricate designs, you will want to use a higher setting to create much smaller bubbles.
These bubbles carry the cleaning solution to the product. Then, when they come into contact with a surface, they implode. That implosion carries the cleaning solution to that surface with force, which will remove the dirt from the surface. This can also be used for rust or as a final preparation method for some crafts.
The cherry on top of this sundae is that the entire cleaning process takes only minutes, compared to hours in many cases. Not only that but once the items are in the tank, there is no need to stand over it, which is key for some small business owners. That time the employee spent cleaning can now be used for production, which will only improve your bottom line as well as help pay you back for the investment you made into the ultrasonic cleaner.
