A good ultrasonic cleaning system is a mechanic’s best friend. There is no other tool that can cut hours off of a grimy repair job quite like it. Below are five areas where ultrasonic cleaning can make a huge difference.
Carburetors
While newer cars do not have carburetors, they are an obvious place to start if you are working on classic cars. The valves, jets, ports, and orifices are a pain to clean. Even worse, they are easy to damage if cleaned by hand.
Cylinder Heads
Removing varnish, sludge, and deposits from the cylinder head is another dirty job, especially around the intake and exhaust ports. Ultrasonic cleaning cuts this tedious task down to 40 minutes. Once cleaned, dye penetrant testing and reassembly are significantly easier.
Brake Cylinders
Dirt, brake dust, and metal particles can invade the cylinders as the pistons wear down. Improper cleaning is not just a performance issue, it is a safety issue. Ultrasonic cleaning gets all the gunk out, even in the fluid reservoir.
Fuel Injectors
Fuel injectors are another part that is tedious to hand clean. It is also easy to damage the nozzle, which could be detrimental to efficiency and performance. Soaking the injectors in a solvent is important, but so is cleaning the ports to remove all the deposits. Ultrasonic cleaning makes this painless.
Differentials
Removing the gear oil from the differential case often requires dangerous solvents. These solvents can also leave residue that makes inserting new bearings and seals difficult. Ultrasonic cleaning leaves the case and internal ring and pinion gears looking almost brand new.
